I thought it would be fun to compare a 1970 Hemi Challenger to a 2015 Hemi-Hellcat Challenger and correct for inflation, then taught you how far we have come.
You'd think finding an MSRP for any car would be easy in our google-world, the MSRP for a 1970 Hemi Challenger should just be a number and fact. However no matter how I ask the question, google can only tell me the market price of a classic Challenger, or then offer up many dealers where I buy a new Challenger.

I kind of played this game with an L88 67 Corvette last week or the week before to compare how inflation is not an apples to apples comparison of price then vs price now.
I would wager somewhere around $4500 as an educated guess though. I'm sure the googles could give me a window sticker.

Um, this is the first result when I googled "1970 dodge challenger original price."
Base price for a 1970 Challenger R/T Hemi was $3,731.75. Adjusted for inflation that's $22,881.01.
There was a fairly long options list though.

I did this once, yet no one listens.... I used a fully loaded Mustang as the car since they still make them today. . . . Back in about 1970 you could get a fully loaded Mustang for about $3500 and minimum wage was about $1.50 . . . Now today, I know there is millions of Mustang options, but a "Cobra" model would run you in the $40k range easy yet minimum wage is only $7.50 or so. . . . . . The cost of living has gone up well over 10 times but the cost of pay has gone up around 5 times.
No I don't advocate raising minimum wage, but cars that were meant to be affordable, are not. Since the cost of everything else has gone up, people just can't afford much these days. . .
Where I live, the average household income is about $43k but the average house cost $230k . . . Means that the average household can't even afford an average house... try to eat and pay the utilities and buy a car after that.

I'd wager that in most places, the average house is likely unaffordable to those making the average household income. Houses are expensive. That's why people rent apartments. They still count as "households" though.
